Returns & repairs

Everything is cut for one person, so returns work differently here than at a shop selling off a shelf. What does not change: if the fit or the workmanship is wrong, I make it right.

Made-to-order pieces

Stamped and made-to-measure pieces cannot be returned. They were cut and struck for you, and there is no second home for them.

If the fit or the workmanship is wrong, I fix it or remake it at no charge. Email me first at orders@martinleatherworking.com before you send anything back.

Stock items

Items that were not stamped or made to your measurements can be returned unused within 30 days of delivery. Email me first and I will tell you where to send it.

If it arrives damaged, or never arrives

Packages ship insured. Email me at orders@martinleatherworking.com with a photo if there is damage, and hold on to the box and packing until we have sorted it.

I file the claim with UPS, and I rebuild your piece. A rebuild goes through the shop in about half the normal bench time, because I already have your measurements and your options on file.

Repairs on my own work

Send it back for repairs on normal wear and tear. If I can fix it, I will. If I cannot, I will contact you before we do anything else.

Re-stitching, resizing, and replacing hardware that has failed are free labor for as long as you are working. You cover shipping both ways.

One limit worth knowing before you order: a strap can be made smaller, not bigger. Between sizes, go up.

This covers pieces bought from the shop. Repairing gear someone else made is quoted case by case.

Refurbishment

Cleaning the leather, replacing hardware that needs it, and reconditioning the whole piece is a separate service that starts at $50. That covers labor and materials for most pieces. If yours needs more than that, I contact you before I do the work. You cover shipping.

Helmet refurbishment and other services are priced on the Services page. Contact me before sending anything in.

What is not covered

Heat drying, mink oil or silicone, machine or pressure washing, and cutting or re-punching the leather yourself will damage the piece, and that damage is not covered. The care card in your package and the FAQ both spell this out.

This is traditional veg-tanned leather gear, not certified PPE, and it is not NFPA rated. Check your department policy before you carry it on the fireground.

Department and PO orders

Orders of 6 pieces or more get bulk pricing and one invoice. Purchase orders are fine, and departments can be invoiced net 30.
